Sample practice questions

Easy

1. A chord AB subtends an angle of 35 degrees at the circumference (point C). Calculate the angle AOB it subtends at the centre O.

Answer: 70 — The angle at the centre theorem: angle at centre = 2 x angle at circumference = 2 x 35 = 70 degrees.
Easy

2. A chord subtends an angle of 100 degrees at the centre O. Calculate the angle it subtends at the circumference on the same arc.

Answer: 50 — Angle at circumference = angle at centre / 2 = 100/2 = 50 degrees.
Medium

3. What is the size of the angle in a semicircle (an angle subtended at the circumference by a diameter)?

Answer: 90 degrees — A diameter subtends 180 degrees at the centre; the angle at the circumference is half of that, 180/2=90 degrees, a right angle.
